How are the X-Men going to get out of this one?

Our team this issue:

We rejoin our heroes this issue as the battle ready mount of dirt was rising from the ground.  The X-Men are being tossed about around the dirt and rubble, and Professor X is almost lost to a great chasm just off to the side of the mechanical mountain.  Thankfully, and against Xavier's wishes, Angel flies in and saves Professor X, placing him safely on higher ground.

Now the X-Men have an advantage against the dangerous laser blasts coming from the evil lair.  The decide to have Ice Man create a flat disc with two stalagmites rising from the base.  Ice Man and Beast latch onto those large icicles, and with his most powerful blast charged and ready, Cyclops shoots his optic blast at the back of the ice disc, shooting the two mutants directly at the lair.  Angel flies behind them to support them.  Before they even have a chance to need support, Beast and Ice Man are captured by two large mechanical arms, and placed inside of a glass cube that suddenly fills with a green gas, knocking them out cold.

Just as Angel tries to follow the glass cube into the lair, a large jet of fire shoots out from the opening that the two mutants were pulled through, forcing him to retreat and report back to the X-Men.

Inside the lair, Dr. Trask is protesting heavily against the Sentinels, he tries bargaining with them, trying to explain how they were created for the good of mankind, not to enslave it.  Dr. Trask must have forgotten that Sentinels have no emotions, are are operating under the order of the Master Mold only now.

When Dr. Trask is brought in front of the Master Mold, he is told that he will allow for them to study the mutants to learn more about them, or the Master Mold will attack a human city and destroy everything he can.

Outside, Professor X is hard at work, he uses his amazing telepathic powers to follow the energy of the laser beams shooting from the lair, and trace those beams back to see who is operating the guns.  As luck would have it, he has figured out a way to incapacitate those sentinels as well.  So moments after he traced the beam's energy, the guns have stopped firing as the sentinels have been incapacitated.

Just as the X-Men were seeing success, Beast is being brought into the Master Mold, and has been placed under the psycho-probe.  This is a beam of light which, when shone on you, forces you to revel your every inner most secrets.  Right on cue, Beast tells Dr. Trask and the Master Mold everything he knows.

Beast tells Dr. Trask how the X-Men are here to help humanity, and that really makes Dr. Trask feel like a jerk.  Then Beast begins to talk about his past, and how he dealt with being a mutant from a young age.  Long story short, he got picked on a lot until Professor X found him.

As Beast is spilling his guts, Cyclops, Marvel Girl, and Angel have blown up a gun and found their way inside the lair.  Just as they feel they are on the path to success, they meet a sentinel who explains that they weren't expecting them, and that they will need to report to the Master Mold to see what should be done with them.

So - quick sidebar - the sentinel, who's sole programming is to destroy mutants, isn't sure what to do with a group of mutants when he finds them in his base...and has to go ask the leader of the sentinels, Master Mold, what to do with them.  Good mutant killing robots must be hard to find these days.

As the X-Men follow this sentinel, they discover Ice Man trapped in an air tight glass box.  They break him out and, after a short scuffle with the sentinel who doesn't understand his primary directive, are on their way to finding beast and the Master Mold himself.

Professor X projects his mind into the base and sees Beast singing like a canary, so he blocks his mind so he cannot speak anymore about the secret X-Men...but that is when the Master Mold detects Professor X's astral presence in the room with them, and uses a handful of micro-electric blasts to disable Xavier's astral body.  Xavier flees the room, knowing that if he cannot make it back to his physical form, he will remain in a trance forever.

The Sentinels that are actually competent have banded together, and are pursuing the X-Men roaming around in their base.  Ice Man creates an ice wall to buy them some time, and block their enemies from getting to them before they have a plan.  However the sentinels have propulsion power built into their feet, and the sentinels fly at full speed into the ice wall, shattering it into a million cold pieces.

The X-Men are then forced to the ground by a heavy gravity ray which is emanating from a sentinel's chest.  They are trapped!

Dr. Trask, now threatened with helping the Master Mold build new sentinels for them, realizes his mistake, and doesn't want to help them anymore.  The sentinels do not accept his refusal, and take whisk him off to the room where sentinels are created.
